The Advanced Options Trading course covers in detail the more complex, multi-legged options strategies. We discuss the market conditions that are optimal for each of these strategies, their risk/reward trade-offs, and how they can be used for monthly income generation as well as speculating on the direction of particular stocks or the broad market indexes. We will discuss the use of straddles and strangles for expected significant moves in a stock's price, e.g., in advance of an FDA announcement, legal announcement, or an earnings announcement. We will spend a lot of our time on trade management, in particular, trade adjustment. This is an essential ingredient in proper risk management of these positions. Several different adjustments will be reviewed for each strategy with a discussion of the pros and cons of each adjustment technique. Each class includes a homework assignment that will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class; this ensures a practical understanding of the previous class topics.
The last class in this series covers investment psychology, risk management, money management, trade monitoring, post audits, and portfolio management - all essential elements to successfully growing your stock and options trading into a viable business. At the completion of this course, the student will understand:
- Delta neutral options trading strategies
- Using calendar, double calendar, condor and butterfly spreads as monthly income generation strategies
- How to make adjustments to income trades to compensate for adverse market moves
- Placing calendar, butterfly and diagonal spreads as directional speculative trades
- Benefiting from large price moves after significant events such as earnings announcements
- How to build a trading system complete with rules and adjustment techniques, and ensuring the system is consistent with the student's objectives, risk tolerance, and time available to manage the positions
Students will receive:
- Electronic copies (pdf files) of all class materials
- Quick reference trade setup guides for the following option spreads:
- Calendars
- Double calendars
- Iron condors
- Iron butterflies
This course builds upon several technical concepts from the Equity and Index Options course, so that course is a recommended prerequisite.
